Most hoodies sent back to us fit badly for the same reason: someone ordered the size they wear in a shirt. A fleece hoodie is not a shirt. It is cut to go over a shirt, in a fabric with real thickness, and the maker's idea of "Large" has no relationship to the Large hanging in your cupboard.
There is a reliable way to do this, and it takes four minutes.
Measure a hoodie you already own
Not your body — a garment. Body measuring with a soft tape is where most people go wrong, because you cannot account for how much room a hoodie needs on top.
Find a hoodie or sweatshirt you like the fit of. Lay it flat on a bed, front up, and smooth out the wrinkles. Then take three numbers:
- Chest. Measure straight across, from one armpit seam to the other. Do not go around the garment. That flat number is what size charts mean by chest width.
- Length. From the highest point of the shoulder, beside the collar, straight down to the hem.
- Sleeve. From the shoulder seam to the end of the cuff.
Write them down. Those three numbers are now your size, and they work on any brand.
Reading a size chart without being misled
Charts list either body measurements or garment measurements, and they rarely say which. The tell is the chest number. If a Large says 40 inches, that is a body measurement. If it says 22 or 23, that is half the garment, measured flat.
Every ASF-ONE product page lists garment measurements, flat, in inches — chest, length and sleeve for each size. Compare them to the three numbers you just took.
How much extra room to allow
Match your flat chest number for a normal fit. Add an inch or two if you intend to wear a sweater underneath, which most people in Lahore and the north do from late December.
If you land between two sizes, size up. A hoodie that is slightly roomy reads as intentional. A hoodie that is slightly tight pulls across the back every time you reach forward, and no amount of washing will fix it.
Why fleece runs differently
Polar fleece and quick-dry knit behave differently on the same body. Fleece has loft — it occupies space — so a fleece Medium often feels like a knit Large across the chest, while being no longer in the body.
This is also why a fleece tracksuit top and its matching trousers sometimes feel like different sizes. The trousers are usually cut closer. Check the waist measurement separately rather than assuming the set is uniform.
Sizes in Pakistan are not standardised
There is no national sizing standard for casualwear here. A Medium from a Karachi wholesaler, a Medium from a Faisalabad knitter and an imported Medium can differ by three inches across the chest. This is not carelessness; there is simply nothing forcing them to agree.
The practical consequence: never order on the size label alone, from anyone. The numbers are the only thing that transfers between brands.
Common questions
Should I size up for a kids' hoodie so it lasts longer?
One size, not two. Children grow in height before they grow in chest, so a hoodie two sizes up hangs past the hips and the cuffs cover the hands — which is the thing that makes a child refuse to wear it. Size up once and check the sleeve length.
Do hoodies shrink after washing?
Polyester fleece barely shrinks. Cotton-blend sweatshirts can lose up to half an inch in length on a hot wash. Wash cold and this stops being a consideration.
